Grigoris Bithikotsis was a huge influence on Greek music for almost half a century and is considered one of the founders of modern popular singing. Growing up in a poor Athens neighbourhood and learning to play the Bouzouki in secret, away from a disapproving father, he went on to become one of the great Greek folk singers and songwriters.
Bithikotsis was dubbed “Sir” in 1960, a nickname reflecting the high regard he was held in Greece. Enjoy a celebration of the musical life of Grigoris Bithikotsis, showcasing his songs about working class life and the pains of love as well as stories of optimism and hope.
This intimate event will feature local musicians John Spantsios on vocals, Dean Georgalas on Bouzouki and Con Kalamaras on guitar.
